Email Campaign Status

Statuses

Campaigns can exist in one of three statuses

  • Draft

  • Active

  • Archived

By default, when your campaign is created it will have a status of Draft.  Draft status allows you to do everything you would normally do when managing a campaign, but no emails will ever be sent to your contacts until you change the status from Draft to Active.

There are also a few features unique to Draft status that streamline the creation and testing process

Contact Enrollment

You can attach workflows and suppression lists, or upload contacts directly, to campaigns in draft status.  The contacts added to your campaign at this stage will show in the Enrolled Contacts list with an enrollment date of "Pending"

As long as your campaign is in Draft status, your contacts will remain pending and will not receive any emails from that campaign, even if a scheduled check-in date passes.

Each contact's campaign status will show if they are active, removed, suppressed, or excluded from the campaign due to an unsubscribe or invalid sms number.  This status will be reflected when the campaign goes from Draft to Active and they will receive or not receive your check-in accordingly.

Sequence Campaign Delay Calculations

If someone is added to a sequence campaign when it is in draft status, their enrollment date will be set to the time at which the campaign is moved from Draft to Active, not the time at which they were originally added to the campaign.

As an example, if you are working on a campaign in Draft status, with a first check-in set to go out after a 1 day delay, and add people on Monday, but do not change the status to Active until Tuesday, the first check-in will go to enrolled contacts on Wednesday, a 1 day delay from the time the campaign was made Active.

After a campaign is Active, the sequence delays will be calculated from the time at which a contact is added to the campaign.  So if someone is added to that campaign on Thursday, they will get the first check-in 1 day later, on Friday.

Test Check-ins

All tests sent while a campaign is in Draft status will remain in the system until the campaign is moved to Active status.  At that point all test records will be deleted from your question results, and the links in your test emails will no longer function.

For Landing Page Campaigns, all responses entered via the landing page url while the campaign is in Draft status will be marked as test responses and deleted when the campaign is moved to Active.

If you send test emails from an Active campaign, those records are stored for 12 hours and then deleted from your results.

Copying Campaigns

Once a campaign is moved from Draft status to Active, it can not be moved back to Draft status.  Edits can still be made to an active campaign, but if you would like to go back to a Draft campaign, you can make a copy of your campaign, all copies are created in Draft status regardless of the status of the original campaign.

Going Live

When you are ready to advance your campaign from Draft status to Active status, click on the "Draft" button at the top of the campaign editor, and select "Go Live"

The system will perform a ready check of your campaign, if there are any errors they will displayed to you at this point and you will not be able to Go Live until they are fixed.

Once a campaign is moved from Draft to Active, all contacts will be processed and all check-ins will be scheduled according to the configuration of your campaign.

Same Day Sends

When you are editing a Scheduled Campaign in Draft status, and select a check-in date of the current day, your records will be processed and sent immediately after you complete the Go Live process.

If you are editing an Active campaign and select a check-in date of the current date, your campaign will be scheduled for 1 hour in the future, and you can edit your check-in up to that point, at which time it will move from the Design tab to the History tab as the system processes the send.
