Create a Multi-Select Question
PropFuel questions should ideally be single-select. Requiring a response helps you collect actionable insights and deliver maximum value to your contacts in real-time.
However, there are use-cases when a multi-select question is appropriate, particularly for data collection. For example, a check-in asking which certifications a contact has or would like to earn could have multiple valid answers.
Not sure if your question should be single select or multi-select? Ask yourself these questions:
Will offering multi-select lead to actionable insights?
Most people tend to choose the convenient "all of the above" option when it’s available, rather than giving a more thoughtful response. Without these thoughtful answers, it becomes difficult to take meaningful action.
What action(s) do you intend to take with the responses?
Offering multi-select options often prevents you from taking specific actions based on the responses. Effective conversational engagement relies on gathering actionable insights.
How do you want to view the data?
Creating a multi-select question in PropFuel means the data will be split among different questions. If this isn't desirable, consider using a survey tool for these types of questions or rephrasing the question to fit a more conversational engagement style.
Does the context or scenario suggest that multiple options might be relevant?
This is usually the case with data collection check-ins. For example, a check-in that asks which certifications a contact has or would like to earn could have multiple valid answers.
Will offering a multi-select enhance or complicate the user experience?
Email templates do not support multiple selections, so you'll need to ask an initial single-select question in the email, called a starting question. Based on the response, you'll then direct contacts to a web/external campaign where they can make multiple selections. This additional step can create friction and may result in contacts abandoning the process.
If you’ve asked yourself the above questions and are still unsure whether a multi-select option is right for your check-in, reach out to your Client Success Manager directly or email us at cs@propfuel.com! We’re always happy to help.
Multi-select question still the best route?
Here’s a quick how-to video:
Here are written Instructions:
1. Create a PropFuel web/external campaign
3. Click "Add Check-In"
3. Choose the Yes/No question Type
4. Enter your first answer choice in the Question Text box
5. Save Question
6. Click Add Question and repeat steps 3-5 for every answer choice.
7. Connect the web/external campaign to a PropFuel email campaign that includes your starting question. That is, the single-select question you'll ask in an email and that redirects contacts to the multi-select question. Remember: email templates do not support multi-select questions, so a starting question is the best way to redirect contacts to your multiple select question. For instructions on how to redirect contacts to a web/external campaign, see Branch Questions.
