How to Plan a PropFuel Campaign
Here are a few questions to consider when planning your PropFuel campaign.
1. Is there a Blueprint available?
Blueprints in PropFuel are pre-built campaign templates designed to help you launch effective engagement campaigns quickly. These templates are based on proven strategies for common use cases, such as membership renewals, event registrations, or re-engagement efforts.
In addition to providing a structured framework, Blueprints use AI to generate campaign copy tailored to your specific organization and campaign goals, saving you time while ensuring relevant and effective messaging.
Before you create an email campaign from scratch, check if a Blueprint exists. Blueprints are the fastest and easiest way to build a campaign in PropFuel.
2. What action do you want to inspire?
Some actions prompt individuals to take action in the short-term, such as renew their membership, or sign up for a conference or webinar. Using PropFuel in these situations helps cut through the noise of broadcast communications and allows you to ask simple questions to understand a member or non-member’s intent.
Some actions spark conversations, which leads to long-term engagement with your association. Important conversations may include:
Why did you join?
What are the biggest challenges you’re facing?
Or you may want to know more about your members, such as asking students for their graduation date, or asking employees for their current job title. This contextual information can help you better serve your members.
You’ll want a mixture of both down the road. Focusing only on the short-term doesn’t foster long-term engagement and conversation - but let’s be real - we also don’t want your contacts to miss important events or deadlines!
We often recommend starting with a short-term action so you can become comfortable with PropFuel and the functionality, and then recommend diving into a full conversational engagement campaign (like a member retention campaign) once you’re ready!
3. Who are you targeting?
Based on the action you want taken, think of the most appropriate audience for that communication.
You can segment your audience if you know the campaign content is only relevant to certain individuals, and PropFuel has the functionality to do that through your AMS integration. And unlike some email systems, you can create unlimited campaigns and have unlimited email sends in PropFuel!
4. What questions do you want to ask?
Think about what kinds of questions you would want to ask to inspire your desired action. If you were meeting face-to-face with someone you wanted to take action, what would you say to them? Begin with what we call a “conversation starter,” which is simply the first question you may ask within a conversation, and then plan any subsequent questions from there.
Then think about what kind of answers you could receive. There are many question types available to use in PropFuel (including multiple choice, open ended, and ratings), so here are a few tips on choosing a question type:
Give recipients choices. It’s much easier to respond by selecting an option, rather than typing a response. Try to think of a way to frame your question(s) so your members can respond by clicking from a list of options or by giving a rating.
Don’t be afraid of a direct yes or no question, including “Do you plan to renew your membership?” It takes the least thought on behalf of the recipient and could open the door to relevant future conversations.
Use open-ended questions as a follow-up. You can build your campaign so that members can answer a multiple-choice question, and then share more details if they choose to continue to engage.
5. Who within your organization can help you brainstorm and create your campaign?
Plan ahead for who you’d like to involve in your chosen campaign - whether it's someone from your marketing team, your membership team, your conference/events team, or any leaders within your organization. You can add unlimited admin accounts in PropFuel if multiple colleagues will help you create the campaign.
Bonus: by brainstorming with you, your colleagues may come up with additional ways they can use PropFuel to engage individuals within your association!
