How to Personalize Communications with Tokens in Email Campaigns

Personalization tokens in PropFuel enable you to customize emails by incorporating specific data like first names or expiration dates for each recipient. When added to a campaign, these tokens automatically replace the token with the corresponding individual data for every email sent.

Why use personalization tokens?

Adding personalization tokens into PropFuel emails creates a more tailored and engaging experience for your contacts. Personalization tokens can be particularly useful in profile update campaign campaigns. Instead of prompting all members for new information, you can display the existing information you have on record and ask if they'd like to update it. This streamlines the process for you and your members.

There are several places you can insert personalization tokens in PropFuel campaigns. View the step-by-step instructions for each below.

In the body of an email template

  1. Click on the “[S]” icon on the upper left menu bar.

  2. Find the personalization value you’d like to insert and click to insert

In the From Name or Subject Line of the email template

  1. Click on the driver’s license icon next to the field you’d like your token inserted

  2. Find the personalization value you’d like to insert and click the arrow icon to insert the token into the template. Alternatively, you can click the clipboard icon to copy it to your clipboard so you can paste it in where you’d like.

In a landing page

  1. Click on the driver’s license icon next to the field you’d like your token inserted

  2. Find the personalization value you’d like to insert and click the arrow to insert it. Alternatively, you can click the clipboard icon to copy it to your clipboard so you can paste it in where you’d like.

In a check-in page template

  1. Click on the “[S]” icon on the upper left menu bar.

  2. Find the personalization value you’d like to insert and click to insert

What personalization tokens are available in PropFuel?

You can use a personalization token for any of the custom fields you’ve created and mapped in your PropFuel account.

You can view these fields and add additional fields by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Advanced > Fields.

  2. Click “Create Field”

  3. Insert a Field Name. This is how you’d like the field displayed in PropFuel and does not have to match the field name in your database exactly.

  4. Select a type for each field. Note: all fields will be either a date, phone number, or text type. If it is not a date or phone number, simply choose text. 

  5. Set a default value for personalization. This is the value the system will use when a field is empty for an individual. For instance, if the first name is blank, it will substitute it with "colleague" or "member" if you've set the personalization default value as such. If you prefer not to insert a default value for blank fields, simply leave that field empty.

  6. Click Save.

Important: make sure your field is mapped to your connected database so that it will replace the personalization token with data for each individual.
1. Click Settings > Advanced > Connectors

  1. Click “Edit” under your connector

  2. Click “Configure”

  3. Find the field you’d like to map

  4. Choose the correct field in the dropdown list

  5. Click “Save Mapping”

Like all PropFuel campaigns, don’t forget to send yourself a test before you go live to ensure everything is set up correctly!
